AVIONICS COMMUNICATION MODULE M4KCAN The M4KCAN is an intelligent serial communications interface module for the multimode, multiprotocol Excalibur 4000 family of carrier boards. The M4KCAN provides a complete solution for developing and testing CAN interfaces and performing system simulation of the CAN bus. It is a highly integrated module that performs serial communication according to the CAN protocol. Each module of the M4KCAN contains up to 6 channels each containing 256 bytes of dual-port RAM for Data Blocks and control registers. All Data Blocks and control registers are memory mapped, and may be accessed in real-time. The CAN protocol uses a multi-master (contention based) bus configuration for the transfer of “communication objects” between nodes of the network. This multi-master bus is also referred to as CSMA/CR or Carrier Sense, Multiple Access, with Collision Resolution. The M4KCAN performs all serial communication functions such as transmission and reception of messages, message filtering, transmit search, and interrupt search with minimal interaction from the user.
