ACCES I/O PRODUCTS INC. 10623 Roselle St., San Diego CA 92121-1506 Tel (858)550-9559 FAX (858)550-7322 CONV232/485 SERIAL DATA CONVERTER DATA SHEET Model CONV232/485 converts full-duplex communications from your RS-232 port for use with two-wire, half-duplex RS-485 operation. This Converter was designed for use with our REMOTE ACCES line when there is no RS-485 port on your PC but may also be used in other similar applications. TD and RD are converted to balanced lines and the RD line is automatically disabled when data is being transmitted to the RS-485 network. Model CONV232/485 can support up to 31 RS-485 devices (when supplying the optional external power). The Converter can transmit and receive transparently at whatever speed the data is flowing, up to 460K baud. At 9600 baud, distances of up to 4000 feet are possible. Power is drawn from the DTR and RTS lines on the RS-232 port and can be used where the communication cable is short. The Converter plugs into your RS-232 port and all that you need to do is hook up the RS-485 wires via a DB9 Male connector. Optional external power of between 5.5VDC and 16VDC is required when communicating with more than two REMOTE ACCES Pods, or over long transmission lines.
