MARKET SEGMENTS AND APPLICATIONS Industry sector Application segment End-user equipment Power supplies Industrial Power Motor speed controls Line protection resistor Telecom Data Communication Power supplies Amplifiers, VCR Sound & Vision Color monitor Consumer Kitchen appliances DAP White good Lighting Ballast equipment Dashboard electronics Lighting equipment Window/mirror steering Automotive Electronic Systems ABS system Alarm system Electronic fuel injection TECHNOLOGY A homogeneous film of metal alloy is deposited on a high-grade ceramic body. After a helical groove has been cut in the resistive layer, tinned connecting wires of electrolytic copper or copper-clad iron are welded to the end-caps. The resistors are coated with a red, non-flammable lacquer, which provides electrical, mechanical and climatic protection. The encapsulation is resistant to all cleaning solvents in accordance with “MIL-STD-202E, method 215” and “IEC 60068-2-45”. NFR01/02/03 Revision in 2003/03/26 PHOENIX DO BRASIL LTDA. Page 4 of 11 Phoenix Passive Components MOUTING The resistors are suitable for processing on automatic insertion equipment and cutting and bending machines. A radial taped version NFR01 and NFR02 economizes space on the PCB. The double kink style offers great advantages for manual insertion improving the mounting stability for the customer. They have a real snap in function to fix the resistor in PCB without weakening the connecting leads. ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS DERATING The power resistor that the resistor can dissipate depends on the operating temperature Pmax X Tamb 120 100 80 60 40 20 0 -55 0 55 70 110 155 Tamb (ºC) Maximum dissipation (Pmax.) in percentage of rated power as a function of ambient temperature (Tamb.). FUSING CHARACTERISTICS The resistors will fuse without the risk of fire and within an indicated range of overload. Fusing means that resistive value of the resistor increases at least 100 times. Range resistance Power Overload Fusing time 0R47 ~ 10R ≥ 20 x Maximum dissipation at 70ºC (Pn) ≤ 60 seconds 10R1 ~ 1K ≥ 16 x Maximum dissipation at 70ºC (Pn) MARKING The nominal resistance and tolerance are marked on the resistor using four (5%) colored bands in accordance with IEC publication 60062 “color code for fixed resistors”. There is a fifth black band in order to indicate the type of resistor. Standard values of nominal resistance are taken from the E24 serie for resistors with a tolerance of 5%. Page 9 of 11 Phoenix Passive Components TESTS AND REQUIREMENTS Essentially all tests are carried out in accordance with the schedule of “IEC publications 60115-1 and 60115-4”, category LTC/UTC/56 (rated temperature range: Lower category temperature, upper category temperature; damp heat, long term, 56 days). The testing also covers the requirements specified by EIA and EIAJ. The tests are carried out in accordance with IEC publication 60068-2, “Recommended basic climatic and mechanical robustness testing procedure for electronic components” and under standard atmospheric conditions according to “EC 60 068-1”, subclause 5.3. In Table 12 the tests and requirements are listed with reference to the relevant clauses of “IEC publications 60115-1, 60068”; a short description of the test procedure is also given. In some instances deviations from the IEC recommendations were necessary for out method of specifying. All soldering tests are performed with mildly activated flux. Table 12.
