WEIGHT: GEN: 29.0 LBS The generator is a brushless, self- GCU: 2.7 LBS exciting, three-in-one unit that provides main DC power to the Bell 609 Tilt Rotor Aircraft over a speed PROTECTIVE range of 5,500-9,400 RPM. This is a FUNCTIONS: OVERVOLTAGE commercial grade unit which UNDERVOLTAGE features long life, auxiliary bearings, OVERCURRENT reverse air flow, and excess flow UNDERSPEED DETECTION capacity to aerate the mid-wing SHORTED FIELD PROTECTION compartment OPEN POR DETECTION FAILED DIODE DETECTION The GCU regulates the voltage of FAILED BEARING DETECTION the generator. Regulation is CURRENT LIMITING accomplished by pulse width modulating the control field. The GCU also implements the protective and supervisory functions as listed COMPLIANCE: DO-160D in the specification table. The GCU MIL-G-6162 also features end-to-end self-test MIL-STD-454 (BIT) and full lightning and HIRF MIL-STD-704 protection per the latest DO-160 MIL-STD-5400 levels.
