® RIM Tach 8500 Quad Features · Provides up to 4 electrically isolated sets of signals in one package eliminating the need for two or more digital tachometers · Thin pancake style design mounts directly on the motor without bearings or couplings · Stainless steel and cast iron construction · Advanced magnetoresistive sensor technology · Driven by up to 4 different pulse counts and supply voltages · Resolutions to 1200 pulses per revolution (PPR) ® The ©NorthStar RIM Tach 8500 Quad has been specifically designed to directly address the needs of paper and steel mills for multiple outputs from a given motor. The traditional approach has been to connect two or more digital tachometers, thus providing the necessary number of feedback signals. This presents the disadvantage of requiring two complete tachometers, two sets of flexible couplings, and generally four bearings. These additions cause the motor length to grow by as much as four feet with ® the accompanying brackets, compared to less than three inches with the RIM Tach 8500 Quad digital tachometer from NorthStar. Rugged, Mill Duty Construction Unique Four Sensor Design The 8500 Quad uses the same basic structural design as the The 8500 Quad can provide up to four electrically isolated ® outputs in one single package. Each output can be driven by RIM Tach 8500 digital tachometer. The mill duty, cast iron a different supply voltage and can be a different pulse count. construction of the model 8500 Quad accepts stainless steel sensor modules with patented magnetoresistive technology. The unique four sensor design of the 8500 Quad allows This is useful for common spares inventory. The modular outputs to be sent to different devices such as the motor design does not use bearings or flexible couplings, yet can drive, PLC’s, DCS, a counter card, and digital readouts. An provide resolutions up to 1200 pulses per revolution. example system might include a high resolution 1024 PPR sensor module operating at 15 volts with the motor drive, yet a PLC may require a 265 PPR at 12 volts; a process control machine and a LED digital readout may require both 64 PPR and an open collector or a line driver output. Easy Installation The heavy duty latching connectors of the 8500 Quad are standard. These epic style connectors are simple to wire by inserting the stripped conductor in the plug and tightening the screw terminals. There is no need to field solder or to struggle with a crimp pin. The unit easily mounts on a standard NEMA 180 C face (8.5”) and requires no gap adjustments. The pulse count output is very simple to change, just remove four screws and slide the desired pulse count sensor module in place. Finally, an optional shaft grounding brush can be added to the unit to reduce or eliminate motor shaft currents. ©NorthStar Technologies, Inc. /A LakeShore Company 575 McCorkle Blvd., Westerville, OH 43082 Tel: (614)818-1150 Fax: (614)891-6909 www.northstar-tec.com sales@northstar-tec.com, service@northstar-tec.com 791-1012-00 Rev. 1 24.26[617] 8.50[216] Electrical Specifications Ordering Information Frequency Response 0 - 120 kHz Tachometer Type Pulse Code A, B, Z (Index), and complements (A, B, Z) RIM85Q RIM85Q Output Phases A, B phase @ quadrature 90°C, Z phase: One per rev (gated) Pulse Duty Cycle 50 ± 15% (within defined mechanical specifications) Pulse Count 60, 64, 75, 120, 128, 150, 240, 256, Quadrature Accuracy 90 ± 22° (within defined mechanical specifications) 300, 480, 480Z, 512, 512Z, 600, Output Type High speed, differential line driver, 600Z, 960, 960Z, 1024, 1024Z, 1200, Rise and Fall Time Less than 1ms @ 10,000 pf typical load 1200Z Current Consumption 45 mA typical plus line driver load Shaft Size Output Current 150 mA maximum continuous 0.625” TS* clamp style TB ESD Protection 2 kV 0.750” TS clamp style TC 0.875” TS clamp style TD Mechanical Specifications 1.000” TS clamp style TE Maximum Operational Speed 7,000 RPM or 120 kHz 1.125” TS clamp style T01 Shaft Axial End Play Up to ± 0.050” 1.375” TS set screw style T02 1.625” TS set screw style T03 Enclosure Configuration 8.5” dia. 180 C motor face or accessory flange for NEMA MG1-4 standards 1.875” TS set screw style T04 Slew Rate 3,600 RPM/second, 12,000 RPM/sec w/ optional high slew rate pulse wheel 2.000” TS set screw style T05 Enclosure Material Ductile iron casting 2.125” TS set screw style T06 2.250” TS set screw style T07 Sensor Module Material Stainless steel 2.375” TS set screw style T08 Box Weight/Box Dimensions 25.0 lbs. GO TO SOURCE
When I can't find an obsolete part, I first call GID and they'll come up with my parts every time. Great customer service and follow up as well. Scott emails me from time to time to touch base and see if we're having trouble finding something.....which is often with our 25 yr old equipment.
