The DAC or Pot V inverter contains an internal 10K pull-up to 3V to bias the BRITE IN1 pot add a 2.7K resistor to set the lower threshold voltage. 0.65V A 3.3V Logic Level PWM signal from a micro-controller 20K to 2.0V V HI may also be used as shown in Figure 1A. Connect V HI LO SET SET GND V to the low voltage wire (wire with thinner insulation). 1 2 LO Never connect V to circuit ground as this will defeat LO NC NC lamp current regulation. If both lamp wires have heavy high voltage insulation, connect the longest wire to V . LO This wire is typically white. Figure 1 – Brightness Control Use the SET and SET (see Figure 2) inputs to select the (output current set to maximum) 1 2 desired maximum output current. Using these two pins in combination allows the inverter to match a wide variety of panels from different manufactures. Generally the best lamp lifetime and efficiency correlates with driving the PW M Signal BRITE CCFL at the manufactures nominal current setting. from System However the SET and SET inputs allow the user the 1 2 flexibility to adjust the current to the maximum allowable P.W. output current to increase panel brightness at the expense LXM1618-05-6x of some reduced lamp life. 10µs to 125µS Although the SET pins are designed such that just leaving ~26% < P.W. < 100% of them open or grounding them is all that is needed to set the period output current, they can also be actively set. Using a open Figure 1A – PWM Brightness Control collector or open drain logic signal will allow you to reduce the lamp current for situations where greater dim range is required, as an example in nighttime situations. In conjunction with a light sensor or other timer the panel 5V could be set to higher brightness (maximum output current) for daytime illumination and lower brightness V BRITE IN1 (minimum or typical output current) at nighttime. Since V HI the dim ratio is a factor the peak output current, using this technique the effective dim ratio can be increased. CCFL LXM1618-05-6x Conversely the SET inputs could be used to overdrive the TUBE SLEEP lamp temporarily to facilitate faster lamp warm up at initial V lamp turn on. Of course any possible degradation on lamp LO SET SET GND 1 2 life from such practices is the users responsibility as not all lamps are designed to be overdriven. The inverter has a built in fault timeout function. If the output is open (lamp disconnected or broken) or shorted L L 5.0mA RMS the inverter will attempt to strike the lamp for several L H 6.0mA seconds. After about 2 to 4 seconds without success the RMS inverter will shutdown. In order to restart the inverter it is H L 7.0mA RMS necessary to toggle the sleep input or cycle the V input H H 8.0mA IN1 RMS supply.
