It is possible to exceed these ambient temperatures, dependant upon the applications CPU utilization. In the final installation, the thermal path must provide sufficient cooling to keep the CPU (T-junction) below the 100°C (max) or protective shutdown will occur. Pentium M CPU’s can leverage advanced speed step to help control thermal overload. Both types of CPU’s (Pentium M and Celeron M) will “duty cycle” the CPU clock at the higher end at the temperature spectrum before protective shutdown occurs.
